On Thursday we headed to Chichester University for a day of fitness testing and weight lifting technique with Olympic and America’s Cup trainer Pete Cunningham.  The fitness testing included measuring our fat levels with a pair of skin fold callipers!  We then jumped on a rowing machine for blood lactate test which involved rowing for 4 minutes after which Pete would take a blood sample then rowing for another 4 minutes and so on at increasing intensity.  It is a way of measuring aerobic fitness, something I need to work on!

We then headed into the next door gym to work on our weight lifting technique with Paul Wallis, it can take 6 months of coaching to get to a perfect technique on just one kind of lift.  So trying to learning 4 in a few hours gave us an idea, but there was still plenty of room for improvement.

The next morning we headed up to London for the boat show.  We saw an interesting presentation by top British solo sailor Mike Golding talking about his recent transatlantic races and the extensive mods he has undertaken to his boat.  Afterwards we headed over to the Musto stand for an Artemis Offshore Academy announcement about the plans for entering three boats into the Solitaire.

We have now arrived back at La Grande Motte in the South of France and have had a hectic couple of days working on our boats and launching them in time for another weeks training.  We still have a lot of work to do on the boats to make them ready for our first race in March.
