On returning from Weymouth, I enjoyed a week in the New Forest. Staying in Bungalow decorated in a delightful green and kitted out with the’ greatest hits of the 1930s’, finally I was able to work on writing my dissertation in the peace and quiet; my only distractions being white horses wandering into the garden, and a large, colourful pheasant who liked to chatter away outside the back door.

Following on from the Easter Challenge, the time had come for the Weymouth Double-handed race to Weymouth. After fighting through the Friday afternoon traffic wishing I’d left earlier, I eventually made it to the boat to help Jerry get the sails and kit onboard. With light winds forecast, we had to set off nice and early from the dock to make sure we got to the start line on time!

The Challenge this Easter? Wearing heels. Oh, and some yacht racing.10 - 04 - 12

Over the 6-8th April, the crew of Yeoman of Wight competed in IRC Class 3 of the RORC Easter Challenge, based out of Cowes, Isle of Wight. With 13 boats in the fleet, the pressure was on to make good use of a hard winter’s training and churn out some top results.

I’ve been making the most of my four weeks off University, trying to get out on the water as much as possible. Two weekends ago, I sailed double-handed to Weymouth. This was to prepare for the Weymouth Double (13-15th April), a 2-leg race starting on the Friday evening. I had a great day, not only because short-handed sailing is exciting, but also because my skipper is a great fan of tea. I must have had about 8 cups before we were anywhere near Weymouth!

Round we go and high pressure!27 - 03 - 12

Last weekend was spent training with the 109 squad, in preparation for our offshore races this season. This weekend (24th/25th) was yet another weekend of sun & little wind!

Classe Mini14 - 03 - 12

Set up by Becky Scott (currently campaigning Basecamp), the UK Mini Solo Training Programme will help British Mini sailors (who usually have limited time and funds to get out to France) get up to speed in the class. Over four weekends the training aims to cover rig tuning, boat handling, speed testing, navigation, meteorology, nutrition, personal preparation and tactics.
